세부시 휴일동안 범죄 감소

In Cebu City: Fewer crimes amid holidays

Police in Cebu City have noted a decline in the number of crimes recorded despite the ongoing Christmas season and the Misa de Gallo, which are traditionally plagued by the occurrence of criminality.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Maria Theresa Macatangay, information officer of Cebu City Police Office, said on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, that they have only recorded six crimes from December 16, the official start of the Misa de Gallo, to December 20.
For a city that records at least 10 crimes per week, this number is already considered an achievement, according to Macatangay.
In fact, the information officer described the figure as “unexpected” because crimes usually go up in December because of the holidays.
Among other reasons, she attributed the decrease to the people's awareness of the increasing prices of commodities, which has made them extra careful of their belongings.
Apart from that, she also lauded the security measures done by CCPO to maintain peace and security in the city.
Of the six crimes recorded, four were theft incidents while the other two are physical injuries and robbery. All these were solved, either through settlements or cases filed against the culprits.
Macatangay said they are hopeful these figures will be sustained throughout the celebration of Christmas and New Year's Day.

세부시 경찰은 크리스마스 시즌이 계속되고 있고, 늘 이런 시기에는 범죄 발생이 잦은 시기임에도 불구하고 현재까지 기록된 범죄 건수는 예년대비 감소했다고 밝혔다.
세부시는 현재 미사 데 갈로(Misa de Gallo) 시즌이 시작되었으며 12월 16일부터 20일까지 단 6건의 범죄만 기록했다.
평소 미사 데 갈로 (Misa de Gallo) 시즌에는 매주 최소 10건 이상의 범죄를 기록하곤 하여 이러한 범죄 경감률은 고무적이다.
세부 시 경찰 관계자는 사람들이 다양한 소지품 가격이 상승하면서 사람들이 의식적으로 소지품의 간수를 더 주의하고 있다고 분석했다.
보고된 6건의 범죄 중 4건은 절도사건이며, 나머지 2건은 신체 상해와 강도 사건이었고, 범인이 잡혔거나 합의를 통해 대체적으로 원만히 해결되었다.
경찰 관계자는 시민들에게 법을 존중하고 항상 불법적인 활동에 관여하지 않도록 촉구했다. 또 사업장마다 경찰의 순찰에 협조하고 해당 지역 내 보안을 최대한 확보하기 위한 노력을 평소보다 더 기울여 달라고 당부했다.
