CCPO issues alert vs fake money during election season

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will intensify monitoring of possible proliferation of fake money during the election season now that the filing of certificates of candidacy has already started.
Police Lt. Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of CCPO, said their move is also based on what they had encountered during the previous elections.
Parilla encouraged the owners of the establishments particularly those small time business owners to be vigilant in the possible usage of these fake money.
He sad put an emphasis on the need to thoroughly check the P500 and P1,000 bills since it was observed that these bills were commonly used in this modus.

세부시 경찰은 필리핀 선거를 앞두고 선거기간 중 위조지폐의 유통 가능성에 대해 모니터링을 강화할 계획이다.
세부시경찰 관계자는 이러한 움직임이 이전 선거철마다 겪었던 과거의 경험을 기반으로 한다고 밝혔다.
특히 사설업체와 소규모 사업을 하는 영세 사업자들이 위조지폐 유통의 타겟이 될 수 있으므로 주의하도록 권고했다.
또, 주로 유통되는 위조지폐는 500페소와 1,000페소 지폐이므로 철저히 점검하도록 당부했다.
세부에서 유통되는 위조지폐는 주로 세부지역에서 제작되어 유통되는 것으로 알려졌다.
위조지폐를 소지하다 적발된 사람은 본인이 그 위조지폐의 제작과 유통에 관련이 없더라도 체포될 수 있다.
한편, 선거철이면 문제가 되는 정치인 관련 민간 무장단체의 발생 가능성에 대해 세부시경찰은 현재까지는 민간 무장단체가 없는 것으로 파악하고 있다고 언급했다.
