Pregnant, nursing moms now on priority vax list

Pregnant women and lactating mothers are now included in A1 and A3 vaccine priority groups.
But only those 18 years old and above are qualified for COVID-19 vaccination.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, Visayas Vaccine Operation Center (VVOC) spokesperson, said pregnant women and lactating mothers are safe to get vaccinated against coronavirus disease.
At a press briefing, she said they can receive COVID-19 vaccines authorized under an emergency use authorization (EUA).
Studies showed that pregnant women who receive a coronavirus vaccine may transfer antibodies to their fetuses through umbilical cord blood and to their newborns through breastmilk.
Citing the informpation on the classification of pregnant and lactating women from the Philippine Infection Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology, Loreche said all brands of vaccines are recommended for all pregnant and breastfeeding women preferably given from 14 weeks age of gestation (AOG) and onwards.
“It is safer in the second and third trimester to get vaccinated. But it is important to consult with your obstetrician first,” she said.

비사야스 백신운영센터의 대변인인 로체 박사는 임산부와 수유부를 대상으로 코로나 바이러스 백신 접종을 권장한다고 밝혔다.
연구에 따르면 코로나 19 바이러스 백신을 접종받은 임산부는 제대혈을 통해 태아에게 항체를 전달하고, 또 수유부는 신생아에게 항체를 전달할 수 있다는 것이다.
그리고 긴급승인을 받은 백신을 가급적이면 임신 14주 이상 경과한 임산부와 모유 수유 여성에게 권장한다고 덧붙였다.
임산부는 먼저 산부인과 의사와 상의하고 임신의 2분기와 3분기에 예방접종을 받은 것이 더 안전하다고 전해졌다.
임신은 약 40주를 세는데 각 3개월씩 3분기로 나눈다.
임산부가 코로나19에 감염되면 조산의 위험이 증가하고 고위험 출산이 될 수 있고, 또 입원이나 집중치료가 필요한 심각한 질병이 동반될 수 있다.
필리핀 보건부는 임산부와 수유부에 대해 코로나19 백신의 안전성에 대한 데이터가 제한적이기는 하지만 백신의 이점이 위험요소보다 더 크다고 강조했다.
