Alarm raised on COVID cases in Lapu-Lapu

Lapu-Lapu City has raised the alarm on its COVID-19 situation after at least 400 of its residents were infected with the coronavirus in the first week of March alone.

But while the Department of Health (DOH)-7 also described the situation as “quite bothersome,” it clarified that the city’s critical utilization rate is still in the safe zone.

Based on DOH’s data as of March 6, utilization rate of ICU beds for COVID patients in Lapu-Lapu is at 48 percent, COVID ward beds is at 35.3 percent, isolation beds is at 52.1 percent, and mechanical ventilators is at 37.8 percent.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist and spokesperson of DOH-7, said hospital utilization rate is considered critical when 70 percent of the beds allocated for COVID-19 patients had been used.

병원 입원률이 70%가량으로 높아지면 시는 비상경계태세로 간주하게 된다.

라푸라푸 시의 찬 시장은 바이러스 확산을 억제하기 위해 적극적으로 최선을 다하고 있다고 말했다.

최근 라푸라푸 시의 일일 확진자수는 평균적으로 50명을 넘어서고 있으며 보통 하루 평균 10~15건을 기록하던 이전보다 많아졌다.

무증상이 많지만 발열, 마른기침, 호흡곤란을 호소하는 환자들이 주로 병원에 입원을 선택했다.

하숙집을 이용한 도시 통근자나 콜센터 근무자들을 위주로 건강 프로토콜을 엄격하게 따르지 않아 감염되는 것으로 추정되고 있다.
