Pregnancy among girls aged below 15 rose by 7% in 2019

The number of girls aged 15 and below who got pregnant in 2019 increased by 7 percent compared to the 2018 data, the Commission on Population and Development (PopCom) said.

According to PopCom, the latest civil-registry statistics collected from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that there were 2,411 girls considered as very young adolescents — meaning aged 10 to 14 years old — who gave birth in 2019.

This is also the ninth straight year where the figure has risen since 2011, constantly making one out of every 10 pregnancies in the country’s database borne accounted for by teenagers.

While it did not divulge figures from the previous yeas, PopCom said pregnancies among very young adolescents had increased three-fold since 2000, when only 755 in the said age group gave birth.

2019년에 출산한 10세~14세 소녀의 아주 어린 청소년은 2,411명이다.

청소년 임신은 2011년 이후 계속 증가하여 통게청이 조사하는 전체 임신과 출산 중 10%이상을 지속적으로 기록하고 있다.

2019년 출산한 필리핀의 미성년자 수는 2018년 62,341명이었던 것에 비해 62,510명으로 소폭 증가했다.

필리핀 의회와 보건부는 10대 임신의 증가 추세가 국가적 사회적 비상사태 때문에 놀라운 속도로 지속되고 있다며 우려했다.

필리핀 의회는 사회복지부서와 협력하여 미성년자인 아이 어머니와 그 자녀들이 국가가 노인에게 제공하는 것과 유사한 사회적 보호와 배려를 받을 수 있도록 관련 법을 개정할 계획이다.

필리핀은 일명 코로나베이비라고 해서, 코로나19 상황으로 집에 머무는 시간이 길어진 가임기 청년인구 때문에 계획되지 않은 214,000명의 아기들이 더 태어날 것으로 전망하고 있다.
