Labella may allow firecrackers this Christmas, New Year

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella is still mulling whether firecrackers will be allowed in the city during Christmas and New Year.

President Rodrigo Duterte, in his address to the nation on Monday evening. has not totally banned the use of firecrackers but has expressed his desire for a total ban starting mid-2021.

The President’s order of limited and regulated use of fireworks in community spaces will be followed, with local government units (LGUs) allowed to regulate its jurisdiction’s firework use accordingly.

For Labella, he will still consult the police, health experts, and the barangays as to whether it will be necessary to ban the fireworks entirely or still allow it in community areas.

“Possibly in designated areas only,” said the mayor.

두테르테 대통령은 월요일 저녁 폭죽 사용에 대해 전면 금지는 아니지만, 내년 2021년 중반 이후 전면 금지를 하고 싶다는 의욕을 표명한 바 있다.

지방 정부 기관은 불꽃놀이 제한과 규제 사용에 대해 기본적으로 대통령의 명령에 따르지만, 지자체 관할 구역의 불꽃놀이 사용을 규제할 수 있다.

라벨라 시장은 불꽃놀이를 완전히 금지해야 하는지, 아니면 커뮤니티 구역에서 허용해야 하는지 경찰, 보건 전문가, 바랑가이 관계자 등과 상의할 계획이다.

시장은 "아마도 지정된 지역에서만 가능하도록"할 계획이다.

한편 세부시경찰(CCPO)는 아직 불꽃놀이 판매 신청서 접수 건수가 없지만 허가를 처리할 준비가 되어 있다고 밝혔다.

불꽃놀이 판매자는 올해 시즌에 불꽃놀이를 판매하려면 사전에 경찰, 소방국, 시정부의 허가를 받아야 한다.

작년에는 불꽃 놀이 공급업체가 SRP지역의 F. Vestil 거리를 따라 늘어서 판매했다.
